Nobel Prize in Medicine Awarded to Stem Cell Researchers

Shinya Yamanaka of Japan and British researcher Sir John B. Gurdon have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their advances in stem cell research and regenerative medicine. We applaud the Nobel committee’s decision to honor the pioneering work of Gurdon and Yamanaka. In addition to acknowledging the individual work of the researchers, we believe the prize represents an acknowledgment of the transformative nature of stem cells and the paradigm shift in medicine that is being driven by advances in stem cell research and regenerative medical treatments.
