Chronic Kidney Disease Treatment Combines Stem Cells with Anti-Scarring Agent.

Posted by on Apr 21, 2015 3:42:49 PM

Recently published research from Monash University has demonstrated the effect of adult stem cells and the protein serelaxin in reversing the scarring on kidneys that typically lead to end-stage renal disease.  While adult stem cells are moderately successful on their own, the scar reduction of serelaxin provided a better environment for them to help the kidney repair itself, providing significant protection from future damage.

StemSave Scientific Advisor, Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic, Spearheads Research Team Growing Replacement Bone From Stem Cells

Posted by on Jul 6, 2012 6:12:54 PM

A team led by Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic, of Columbia University has successfully grown a variety of bone structures utilizing a scaffold infused with stem cells.

The team has grown more than 50 healthy bones from stem cells. The team is experimenting with a variety of scaffolding materials, including bone stripped of all cellular material as well as silk scaffolds developed by Tufts University. The scaffolding with the stem cells are housed in a bioreactor which nourishes and directs the stem cells to regenerate and differentiate into newbone. As the new bone develops, the scaffolding material dissolves, resulting in new, fully-functioning bone.

Join 'Cake Boss’' Lisa Valastro as She Discusses the Importance of Banking Your Children’s Stem Cells

After the birth of her youngest son Carlo, Lisa Valastro, wife of TLC's "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro, made the wise investment of banking the stem cells from Carlo’s cord blood and placenta in the event that he may need them for future medical treatment. Valastro previously banked the cord blood stem cells from each of her four children's umbilical cords, ensuring that they would each have access to the best possible match for stem cell therapies: their own stem cells.
